Building communities of online believers

There has been a little griping about whether blogrol and aggregator links count as “real” links or not. Well, as I see it every link of every nature is a vote in favor of that site, saying it is somewhere that is worth a visit. What is more every link is a signpost which ALLOWS someone to visit that site if they want to. Who out there has never found an interesting blog by following a link on someone elses site?

The decision to place a link on a site tells you something about that person and what they like also. Which of us do not glance down the list of blogs in someones sidebar to see who they link to? To be honest I sometimes use that as a marker as to whether I want to read this particular blog in more detail or not!

The power of links are that whilst hubs of links (and yes, the more outgoing links on a page the more incoming links tend to be placed by others also are) incredibly important there are actually more links to find out there on less well read blogs.

So, razorkiss shouldnt be surprised that he sent a reader my way because blog traffic flows both up and down the ecosytem of ranked blogs.
