Why does it seem to take The Times to speak some sense about the CofE. I have been waiting for some honest commentary on the sticky issue of the C of E and the remarrying Prince who will one day be the head of the CofE. I have been waiting in vain until I saw this article from the times, which suggest the church would be better off disestablished and split up. Perhaps then the growing parts of the Church could get decent media coverage (although I am not holding my breath!). Heres what the Times said-
“The Church of England really ought to have modernised itself over the past few centuries. By remaining attached to the monarchy it has opted to become part of the heritage industry. A sensible enough decision in some ways it means no end of interest from tourists and plenty of merchandising opportunities. But it means that it is no longer a convincing or compelling form of Christianity.”
