More on the new and improved Blogdom of God community June 14, 2005

The new improved blogdom of God continues to grow in secret and is nearnly ready to be unleashed on an unsuspecting world. I always wanted the BoG to be made up of the broadest definition of “christian” possible- I felt it was going to be impossible for me to police the theology of hundreds of blogs- now we are running into thousands that is even more true. We now actually have over 3500 “god blogs” so that becomes even more problematic! So, I have concluded that the BoG becomes a gathering place for anyone loosely affiliated with chrisitianity in anyway. There are other gatherings of blog that are more restrictive in their entry criteria- groups exist for evangelicals, baptists, calvinists, catholics, and so on. Membership of any of these other groups is grounds for being a member in the Blogdom of God. If you know of a group of “God blogs” I may not have heard of, let me know!

All this means that there are blogs in the new BoG that I would personally totally disagree with. But, it also means that it becomes a community where interaction with people totally different to ourselves can occur. This allows growth on the part of all, and is an opportunity for evangelism of some who are probably not even christians. One of the keenest members of the BoG has actually been a Christian-friendly Jew! Since it isnt a church, I have felt that to reject some and not others will be very difficult to justify.

So, essentially the Blogdom of God is a community for anyone who wants to self-identify as a “God blogger” and who feels an affinity with other members of the group. I will always reserve the right, however to convene a small group of prominent God bloggers to consider the suitability of any individual blogger to be within the group. Being offensive towards others, promoting directly anti-christian beliefs or values, and acting illegally are all reasons that could give rise to an eviction potentially.

I trust that God bloggers will learn great grace with those they disagree with. I would hope that they will not make calls in public for other members of the Blogdom of God community to be evicted, but I am always willing for such calls to be made direct to me in an email! I am still looking for volunteers who will check out some of these new blogs in return for a sneak preview- just drop me an email!
