I came across an interesting quote in one of the ‘Word’ commentaries- ‘Paul usually criticizes his opponents lifestyle and not their theology. The fallacy of their teaching is confirmed by the lifestyle it produces’.
This notion of doctrine and life being entwined is a key New Testament value. So how did we get to the point in our churches where we often seem more concerned about the correctness of each other’s doctrine than the way we live our lives? Why is it that so many of our sermons merely teach intellectual truths without explaining how we should live differently in light of what we have heard?
