On Valentine’s Day we think of romantic love. But the kind of love that the world pushes on us shares little in common with the Bible’s view of love. Love is a doing word, not a feeling. Love is a commitment, not a moment of passion. Love is a decision, not a fleeting fancy. Love is forever, not a one-night stand. Real love is the kind of love Jesus has for us. If you are alone this Valentine’s, you can be glad that you are not alone as there is one who has given himself for you and will always love you. As the Apostle Paul says:
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. (1 Corinthians 13)
