There are moments when any freedom loving, justice seeking, honourable person MUST speak up. This is one such moment. My pastor Tope Koleoso spoke out wisely and deeply personally about one such injustice this morning. He was of course speaking about the horrendous event in the USA.
I have very little to add except that we simply cannot tolerate the cold blooded murder of a black suspect by a white policeman in the 21st Century.
I am also deeply concerned about reports of rioting and police cars driving through protestors. Our police would not be so aggressive here in the UK. We must pray for peace. But there has to be swift justice for George Floyd, and it is good that the policeman involved has now been arrested for murder.
This is a systemic problem, however, that needs a broad response. Churches which demonstrate the love of God passing racial boundaries are a crucial part of the solution. Here is a video of Tope preaching the message of reconciliation and diversity at a Christian conference.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is the only message that can produce a true United Nations. I was so proud of my pastor Tope Koleoso on Sunday morning as he shared deeply, movingly, and personally about this situation at church live. He was right, when I see the photo below, I too can see my dear friend and pastor’s face on that ground.
Here is what I tweeted and I have also posted on Facebook:
There are no other words to describe this than the evil racist murder of George Floyd. All Christians must reject this. Thanks for highlighting it so wisely @TopeKoleoso today @Jubilee_Church “Injustice is a threat to justice everywhere” MLK https://t.co/2eZGaXlfWS— Adrian Warnock (@adrianwarnock) May 31, 2020
