Prayer Works

Prayer Works

This morning my pastor preached a sermon launching our new series ‘Prayer works’. Tope put out a clear call to us to join in our church’s week of prayer and fasting. I loved his line about ‘detoxifying the soul’. Denying yourself something for a season in order to seek God can only do you good spiritually.

Tope quoted Jesus description of the temple which is surely to be applied to the church today it should be ‘a house of prayer for all the nations’

Tope made the point that rather than worrying too much about strategy in church life, we should focus on prayer. If we get prayer right everything else will follow.

Why do Christians pray? Quite simply Because the bible says so! We pray to acknowledge God as God.

Prayer reminds us that God is God + we are not. If you live a lifestyle without prayer you fail to honor God for who he is. Only fools live as though there is no God.

God is close to the hurting- if we just turn up to pray + say ‘help’ it is almost as though he cannot resist such a prayer. God is very much alive and acts today. The bible is full of answered prayers. Of course not every prayer will be answered the way we want it to be. But, we forget sometimes that prayer is actually more for our benefit than God’s.

Prayer is Jesus prescription for us- lets use it more and our churches will be stronger.
