My friend, Andrew Fountain, is live-blogging from the Newfrontiers Together on a Mission leadership conference being held in Brighton. His reports will be uploaded to his site, in Christ: Andrew Fountain’s blog. As he is able to gain Internet access, he will upload his impressions. Andrew reports, “So far we have had sessions from Stephen van Rhyn, Rob Rufus, and Terry Virgo. All three of them were excellent . . .” His first report (M03) is on Terry Virgo’s session,... Read more

As I write this, Together On A Mission has started. Perhaps like me, at the moment you can’t be there and wish you could be. (I am looking forward to getting there soon though!). Perhaps you are there and enjoying it so much you are thinking that next year you would like to go to two Chrisitan conferences. If so, my friends at New Word Alive can help you out. With a line-up of confirmed speakers next April — Terry... Read more

This is from The Resurgence “I’ve been wondering why many Christians are such boring people to be around if redemption is true. If Christ’s mission was truly accomplished and if the Kingdom of God is alive then Christians ought to be the most celebrative people on the planet throwing the best parties and social events. If the Gospel is true one would think that Christians would be the best at “getting their party on.” . . . So if the... Read more

Yesterday it was a delight to see my old friends, Ian and Megan Jukes, and their three lovely kids. We went to visit a church founded by George Whitefield where he preached and is buried under the pulpit. I took loads of photos so have turned them into a slide show for you. If you want to see his burial place, it is at The Old South Church, Newburyport, Massachusetts. The Resurgence also posted a sermon by George Whitefield just recently.... Read more

I am thrilled to be able to bring you live-blogging from this year’s Together On A Mission Conference, which will run from the 10-13 July. This year the conference is fuller than it has ever been before, and will apparently be running an overflow venue. One of the strengths of Tim Challies’ live-blogging of Christian conferences is the perspective he brings to many of these conferences as a visitor. For me, TOAM is practically my second home. I have been... Read more

This is it. The end. My final post in this series. Of course, I am sure I will return to this subject from time to time — especially if there are other developments in the wider scene. But this really is the conclusion of my series — it is time to move on to other matters. It is only appropriate that the final quote in this prolonged series on the cross be given to that stalwart champion of penal substitution... Read more

So far I have shared quotes from Wayne Grudem, Spurgeon, Tom Schreiner, and C. J. Mahaney on the cross. Today it’s Terry Virgo’s turn: “Remember God has accepted us. The gospel of grace is a message of breathtaking freedom. It must be embraced with faith and thanksgiving. You are thoroughly accepted just as you are. Jesus Christ is your righteousness and he is never going to change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. When you wake tomorrow, he... Read more

So far we have shared quotes from Wayne Grudem and C. H. Spurgeon on the cross. Today I’d like to share a quote from Dr. Tom Schreiner, Associate Dean and Professor of New Testament at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Louisville, Kentucky). Incidentally, Martin Downes has just posted an interview with Dr. Schreiner. “I define penal substitution as follows: The Father, because of his love for human beings, sent his Son (who offered himself willingly and gladly) to satisfy his justice,... Read more

Over on Terry Virgo’s Blog, he has written a post entitled apostles today. This complements some of the interesting things he had to say on this subject in the recent interview here on my blog. If you haven’t read that interview yet, it can be found in the following posts: INTERVIEW — Terry Virgo: Leader of Newfrontiers INTERVIEW — Terry Virgo on The Early Days INTERVIEW — Terry Virgo on the Distinctives of Newfrontiers INTERVIEW — Terry Virgo on the... Read more
