In real life I could be anyone. No matter how well you feel you know me from myblog writings its not possible to tell all kinds of really importantthings. What do you know about how I relate to my wife and children if allyou know of me is this blog? It worries me a little that many readers of blogs no doubt look to them fortheir teaching more than their local church. The challenge for some nodoubt is that they... Read more

JOLLYBLOGGER: argues that the word preached can make a difference even if the preacher is in rebellion and not spirit-filled. I think that whilst it may well be true that this CAN happen, nonetheless it is not the ideal. There is definitely such a thing as the annointing to preach which is associated with a greater likihood for change in the hearers. I really like something he says at the end of his post as it reminds me that I... Read more

JOLLYBLOGGER shares his thoughts with us on sermon preparation and Blogotional has an interesting quote on the difference between sanctification and justification. The quote seems to imply that man has nothing to do when he is saved. Whilst I understand where this is coming from, there is no doubt in my mind that saving faith and repentance involve us- God grants us the grace to be able to do so but WE are commanded to believe. In common with many... Read more

I could still use some more help on my questionnaire. All I am prepared to admit that the theory is that people will cluster around certain answers ie A’s B’s C’s or D’s. If you have already done the questionnaire, perhaps you could review your answers and send me an email with any questions where you simply cannot identify at ALL with the answer of the letter which you have most prominently answered the others! Obviously, with any questionnaire there... Read more

John over at Blogotional has lept back into our discussion on the nature of preaching. He claims to feel overwhelmed by the length of recent posts on the subject then hits us with one of his pithy statements that cuts to the heart of it all- “Listening and reading can only take us so far down the road to becoming, well, anything.” Thats what I love about him. John is of course right- and perhaps the main reason for our... Read more

Unveiled Face: responding to his surprise warnie award: “Before saying anything else I should confess that once upon a time (i.e. quite recently), I would have added this to my collection of self-esteem-boosting stuff stored up in my brain. However, it is a testimony to Christ’s transforming work that I can use this opportunity to truly thank God for all blessings – including this kind of encouragement 🙂 I really do appreciate the response to these posts, and I also... Read more

Todays McCheyne reading from 2 Tim 3: “10 You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. 12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil people and impostors will go... Read more
