Why does it seem to take The Times to speak some sense about the CofE. I have been waiting for some honest commentary on the sticky issue of the C of E and the remarrying Prince who will one day be the head of the CofE. I have been waiting in vain until I saw this article from the times, which suggest the church would be better off disestablished and split up. Perhaps then the growing parts of the Church... Read more

I like it when old posts get recycled. Comment Me No Comments has linked to an old post of mine which made an analogy between abortion and a car crash. It was a favorite post of mine, and as is common with favorite posts it didnt get taken up as much as Id have liked. Its always the posts you least expect that get the comments! Read more

Albert Mohler: “Even though he would be more appropriately categorized as a “post-evangelical,” McLaren was listed as one of 25 influential evangelicals in the February 7, 2005 edition of TIME magazine. In its profile, TIME referred to a conference last spring at which McLaren was addressed with a question related to gay marriage. “You know what,” McLaren responded, “The thing that breaks my heart is that there’s no way I can answer it without hurting someone on either side.” TIME... Read more

My hero John Piper has made his book defending the classical view of the atonement available for free online. I shall no doubt blog through that book. The blurb says “Does Christ’s life-long record of perfect obedience to God get ‘credited’ to your account when you trust in Christ and are ‘justified’ by God? This has been the historic Protestant understanding of the ‘imputation of Christ’s righteousness,’ but John Piper warns that we are in danger of losing this doctrine... Read more

john Piper explains that the cross was the answer to an essential problem- the problem of how God can simply overlook sin: “God’s righteousness is at stake. His name or reputation or honor must be vindicated. Before the cross can be for our sake, it must be for God’s sake.”. Piper uses the example of David as why this problem exists. David feels the rebuke of Nathan, and in verse 13 he says, “I have sinned against the LORD.” To... Read more

ESV Bible Online: Passage: Romans 5 says it fantastically, Christ died in our place that we might be forgiven. He took Gods wrath away and by his one act made our righteousness possible. The only valid way of interepreting this passage is as a reference to some form of penal substitution. 6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person’though perhaps for a... Read more
