The book Total Truth is proving very interesting indeed. Her central thesis is quite clearly described and is very well explained. If only the neo-liberals were as good at explaining themselves it would make our task of critquing and responding so much easier. Christianity is not a series of truths in the plural but rather truth spelled with a capital “T” Truth about total reality not just about religious things….Christians are called to redeem entire cultures, not just individuals……..”the gospel... Read more

With his usual impecible timing and attempt at popularism that will cost him very little, Michael Howard has stepped in to criticise the BBC at the eleventh hour. If he had said something earlier this week I would have applauded it- hey I might even have thought of voting for a man willing to stand up for his principles but now when it seems too late, I cant help but feel he is simply thinking of the 45,000 calls and... Read more

Now I understand “Rathergate” and the full impact blogs had on the whole saga. Hugh explains how in the hours after the faked memos were shown on TV the “sheer amount of evidence, collected in a few short hours, is beyond staggering. It is phenomenal. Mainstream media would be the same. blogging had entered the mainstrealn media’s awareness never to leave again…… dismissed by an ex-CBS bigs Jonathan Stein, as just “guys in pajamas”….obsessed losers ranting away and venting their... Read more

People fail to realize these days that trust=cash. We have all been caught out- apparently a tsunami picture I posted on here was a fake I was taken in. Oddly enough I was taken in precisely because the genuine pictures and footage I have seen has not really given me a sense of the event itself for the people involved. I guess that people in real danger are unlikely to use their cameras. This is one disaster where it has... Read more

Emerging church is going to have to wait- dont worry Dan, I will be back!. I have 2 newly arrived books that I want to read now and a brand new Pen Scanning device to get the quotes into the blog! One of these books is Blog and the other is Nancy’s. Sadly Rick isnt getting a look in either the last few days….But I am glad to say that my daily McCheyne bible reading plan is going to plan-... Read more

Wink over at Parableman seems to be keen to reject the notion of “substitution”. Unlike some neoliberals he does accept that there is a punishment element to the cross. However he emphasises the verses that speak of our union with Christ in his death. Unfortunately attacking the notion of the atonement from this other side still has the same effect- ie the whole eddifice of evangelical doctrine comes tumbling down. You see he states “In Penal Union, it is true... Read more

The BBC is totally out of touch. Hugh Hewitt might well ask if this might turn into the first significant case of blogger swarming to affect the UK. My thoughts are revolving about the potential for worldwide bloggers to have a devestating influence on a national dinosaur that prides itself in offering a “world service” I have had some correspondence from them today which beggars belief and which I will quote in its fullness at the end of its post... Read more

I wonder how many other bloggers like me emailed the Evangelical Alliance to say something about the Jerry Springer The Opera controversy? It is interesting that an organisation like the EA waited till the wave of email and blog protest which started just a matter of days ago to release this statment- did they jump or were they pushed? Still I am not going to complain about that, as at least they have responded to the groundswell of public opinion... Read more

Earnestly Contending has two great quotes which I will reproduce and some helpful commentary of his own: H. Richard Niebuhr once described the modern gospel as consisting of ‘A God without wrath bringing people without sin into a kingdom without judgment through a Christ without a cross.'” .C. Ryle said this as part of a dissertaion on the essentials of a biblical faith: “The first leading feature of Evangelical Religion is the absolute supremacy it assigns to Holy Scripture, as... Read more

Just noticed my pastors sermon responding to the Tsunamis is now online. I remember that one criticism of some churches after 9/11 was that they did not respond to the disaster appropriately. I was quite surprised to note on a couple of church websites that put their audio sermons online that some preachers do not appear to have modified their preaching plans following 26/12. I would find it hard to believe that any churches failed to mark the event in... Read more
