Terry Virgo of newfrontiers writes We certainly need what those early Christians seemed to have. Maybe we should try and do church the way they did it! Or is that asking too much? Maybe if we took God seriously, believed Him and obeyed Him and made space for the Holy Spirit, we might see something happen. G.K. Chesterton is reported as saying, “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult, and left untried.... Read more

World Magazine Blog reports a showdown on prime time TV which seems to have been about who Jesus would vote for in an election. I think with all the energy that has gone into answering the question What Would Jesus Vote?, we run the risk of forgetting a really crucial point. Jesus has already voted. He knows, in fact he DETERMINED who the next president of the USA will be. Part of a belief in a sovereign God is that... Read more

HAve had a lot of fun exploring Evangelical Outpost’s list of Bloggers he tips for the big time. I wondered what they had in common, and I discovered that all except four of them shared the good taste (Ed- you are being too modest!) not to link to my own blog. The fact that all of them link to Evangelical Outpost is probably a give-away as to how he found some of them. The easiest and often most fruitful way... Read more

Life In The Cultlane responded in my comments section to my post What is an evangelical? I thought I would include the post in its entirety here and comment as we go. Hi! I seem to have sparked quite some discussion. For context – I’m a New Zealander, I consider myself Christian, I grew up from 1971-1989 in a church that I would consider Pentecostal (‘Indigenous Pentecostal’, ie, NZ homegrown) and inspired directly by Smith Wigglesworth. This church very definitely... Read more

Unlike many blogs I have always referred to this blog simply by its name. The sharp-eyed among you will notice that the word ‘evangelical’ has reappeared in my title. It has been there before but now I feel it must return! The trigger for this new-found desire to ‘label’ myself as an evangelical is watching jolly blogger being called a liberal! Actually he was called an evangelical-leaning-liberal. We are not 100% sure what that means and a hilarious discussion has... Read more

A few days back I asked How Partisan should a pastor be%3F. Some of the comments there have been quite insightful. I showed my ignorance by asking what Bush had done for foetuses. I guess from this side of the pond I am used to a prime minister who can do more or less what he wants. So, the idea of a president not being able to significantly alter abortion legislation if he was genuinely against it is somehow surprising... Read more

Well, I don’t think I can avoid it any longer. After a brief conversation that begun ‘how can you be a Christian and a psychiatrist?’ I went back into my self-imposed silence on the subject of counselling. This is kind of strange as oviously it is an area that interests me. So here goes with a series on Biblical counselling. I want to start by speaking of the boundaries of counselling, and how it relates to other things we do.... Read more

I have been asked what the Blogdom of God is. Well the short answer is its a loose group of ‘God bloggers’ that try and help each other get noticed online. It was inspired believe it or not by a series of sermons we were preaching at church, called The Kingdom of God. One in partcular spoke of something small and hidden growing into being something big. All our blogs find they get more links by being in (not least... Read more

You can now listen to audio sermons from newfrontiers Leadership 2004 conference. Newfrontiers is a worldwide family of churches together on a mission. Some of these messages are really very important to listen to. I would especially commend the Tery Virgo sessions where he speaks on David and Saul. I owe so much to this family of churches which I am thrilled to be a part of. Read more
