Jollyblogger and others have been essentially saying that there is no such thing as a specific will of God for my life. Quoting Augustine Love God, and then do what you like we are told to simply make our own decisions. Now it is with great hesitation that I beg to differ with such an august blogger (no pun intended!). Jollyblogger is right that many Christians today are preoccupied unhelpfully with their own fullfillment, and as a first step I... Read more

I wish my return to blogging after a brief hiatus could be on a more pleasant subject. Like most of the rest of the world I have been reeling with shock regarding the awful stories we have been hearing of abuse of Iraqui prisoners. Initially I was shocked, but disappointed that the photos were being published. Convinced that surely these must be isolated cases, I believed that those who had committed the acts should be brought to justice. Would giving... Read more

My old online sparring parther Vessel of Honour described the Bloggers Gathered Together For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. — Matthew 18:20It was time for another trip uptown to meet with my blogging brothers and sisters in Christ: Adrian Warnock- (Ed -a Christian blogger from London UK), Messy Christian (MC) (Ed- who perhaps should be called Malaysian Christian blogger- her great blogs rise so far has been... Read more

Things are a little quiet on the blogging front here at the moment. The nature of who I am and the work I do means that blogging here is eratic- one day loads the next few nothing! I refuse to apologise since despite the overwhelming (to me anyway!) size of my readership I still blog predominantly for me. If I dont feel like blogging, or (dare I even suggest it!) I have nothing to say, I wont blog just for... Read more

It’s all about forgiveness said Messy Christian in one of her truly memorable personal posts. This reminded me of a sermon I preached a while back on being a Peacemaker which had been inspired by the Ken Sande book of the same name: In my notes I defined forgiveness as follows- Forgiveness is -Not a feeling -Not forgetting -Not excusing Don’t say ‘it was nothing’ Rather, Forgiveness means to DROP it -I will no longer dwell on this incident.’ –... Read more

Managing the Blogdom of God which continues to grow becomes a headache after a while! What I am wondering is if anyone out there would either know of a technical solution that would already do the following, or has the savvy to create one. I would love a computer to be able to do this- 1. Read the Blogdom of God Blogroll as served by the Truth Laid Bear and obtain a list of URLs on a regular basis 2.... Read more

Am reading the book Invading secular space. Some of my readers will be delighted to know that the book quotes from ‘Unchurched faith’. The book really highlights some of the deficiencies of many current churches. But, instead of giving up on the church it paints a picture of how teh church can be transformed into a community that is focussed on its mission. For more posts on being missional see the category page. Read more

These are all quotes from Jollyblogger’s great Christian blog Jollyblogger begins by talking about a time he discovered meekness (although he didnt use that word). -Since that time I have found it very hard to be disappointed in another Christian or another group of Christians. This doesn’t mean I don’t have disagreements with other Christians, nor does it mean I refuse to stand on my convictions. But it does mean I am always among my equals or my betters. -While... Read more

Those who preach the concept of being ‘unchurched’ as a new and sensible response to the apostate state of much of the church today need to listen to John Calvin. Thre were such even in his day, and this is his response (thanks to Jollyblogger) “Others, again, sin in this respect, not so much from that insane pride as from inconsiderate zeal. Seeing that among those to whom the gospel is preached, the fruit produced is not in accordance with... Read more
