One of my readers commented ‘The public reaction in the U.S. was perhaps less visible, but no less felt. Furthermore, as a nation, we are not particularly fond of dwelling on problems. We would rather fix them. The world is witness to our efforts.’ I think this hits the nail on the head. Where the Spanish took to the streets, the Americans planned united behind militery action. So many ‘liberal’ Europeans found it hard to understand the response of the... Read more

I still cant get the pictures of millions of Spanish citizens on the streets out of my mind. I have posted a fair bit about the tragedy further down this page. It strikes me that when we face danger, we tend to unite. I get the feeling though that there may have already been a greater spirit of solidarity in Spain than there is in either the UK or the US. My friends in the US may be able to... Read more

So what is the point of church? Why is it important? Why does it exist and what can it do for me? Should I actually be asking the question ‘What can I do for the church?’ Like the Romans, there is much that has been purely practical that the church has accomplished. Great social movements, charitable care, justice campaigns that have led to changes in the law have all come from church. Not to mention institutions like schools and hospitals... Read more

The BBC reports “three Moroccans and two Indians” have been arrested in Spain in connection with the bombings. Yet, coverage here still seems reluctant to jump to the conclusion most of us have- this is almost certainly no ETA attack. Of course the implications are not good. Despite the ‘war on terror’ these people can choose a day and a target and create mayhem without any real problems. Where and When they will strike next is unclear to us, but... Read more

Back Seat Drivers has got things well covered and is well worth a read. Media Biteshas links to UK newspaper articles Instapundit has wall to wall coverage as you might expect. But many of the blogs I read regularly don’t seem to have picked this up. I wonder why? Read more

One Hand Clapping has some photos, but turn on that TV and see the video- I am sure that it will jolt into realising that a whole nation is in mourning today. Read more

The images of towers burning, the second plane hitting the tower, people jumping and the towers falling are what will remain with us all from 911. I felt disconnected from the events in Spain before I switched on that manufacturer of the global village- the 24 hour news channel. Having seen the pictures I now feel the pain of the Spanish. It is not, however, the distorted trains which I will remember from what I have just seen on the... Read more

It is one of the aweful consequences of the terrible events of 9/11 that when several bombs go off, narrowly avoiding detonating all in a major train station (which may have led to the collapse of that station) but still leading to around 200 deaths does not have the impact it should. We all stopped after 9/11. We all watched TV for days. Following the latest bombings, I have yet to put mine onto the news channel- although I will... Read more

Just when I thought I could begin to breath easily, Mac strikes again. The so-called Vessel of Honour is rattling my cage once more “A long time ago, I read that the practice of cell groups as used in churches is actually a satanic invention used to fracture the unity of the church and destroy its prayer foundation…… Our Bible studies, discussions and prayer were dictated by the whims of our particular cell leader. Each cell then has its own... Read more
