This email intreged me. I wonder if anyone out there knows if these stories are authentic. Clearly, whether they are or not many similar things would have happened. After Sept. 11 … I happened to call a man on business that I didn’t know and have not, nor will ever, talk to again. But this day, he felt like talking. He was head of security of a company that had invited the remaining members of a company who had been... Read more

Have just finished two days of a presentation skills course. Am rather taken aback by it all. It was one of those times where many things you already know take on new significance, and things that you ought to have known become clearer. It was also an amazing experience. We were told the seemingly obvious, but none the less profound truth that a presentation is not about imparting facts. Rather, the goal is for the audience to enter a shared... Read more

My list of tools to defeat sin was constructed from a varieety of sources. Like the readers of my blog (you all passed the test!!!) I did think that there was a major ommission or two. It is the empowering grace of God applied by the Holy Spirit that changes our desires, although all those activities I listed and more are indeed important as we co-operate with Him in the work of sanctification. Read more

As part of my ongoing preparation for my next sermon, I am compiling a list of the ways Christians can use to help them defeat sin. This list is intended to be reasonably complete, but has at least one deliberate ommission. I wonder if any of my mostly Christian readers can suggest one or two extra ones to add to this list, or indeed spot my deliberately absent tool for defeating sin, please either comment on this post or drop... Read more

Learnt something shocking at a course today. It seems that the law of negligence is based on the principle of first proving a duty of care. Thus, if I am in a park and a toddler comes hurtling out of the bush, heading straight for the pond and I watch them fall in and drown without doing anything I have NOT committed a crime. If on the other hand I am the kids nanny that is a different matter. We... Read more

Thanks to Correction for this: “A Parable When the baby died, the angels carried him up to Heaven and rested him gently on a cloud. A man was there, also new, and they decided to tour Heaven together. ‘Tell me about yourself,’ said the baby, trying to put the man at ease. ‘I was old. I died in my sleep. I had a long life, so I can’t complain.’ The man looked at the little baby before him. ‘You, though.... Read more

I have often heard it said, “If I had been the only person on the earth, Jesus would still have died for me. Although our Lord could have given his life for just one person, it most certainly would not have been because that person was so valuable, but because God was so gracious. Such an occurrence should hardly, therefore, be regarded as a source of pride or selfesteem. For me to argue that Jesus would have died for me... Read more
