In the second service on Sunday, Dr Ulmer preached from Matthew 21. He began by asking is your church God’s house. He spoke about how man has made it into what it should not be. He urged that churches be known as a house of prayer, so that they would become a house of power, and as a result a house of praise. Read more

Last Sunday at Jubilee Church London we were really blessed to hear from Dr Kenneth Ulmer as a visiting preacher. He preached two completely different sermons from two different passages at our two services. In this first message he began in John 17 focussing on the call we all have on our lives to glorify God. He stressed that each of us have things to do to “accomplish the work” God has set for us as individuals. He then moved... Read more

Jack Hayford visited Jubilee Church London to preach over the summer. He spoke from John 13, and so I thought I would share it with you here. Most poeple think verse 34 “love one another as I have loved you” is referring to Jesus death. But Jack here argues that surely it is more practically referring to this act of service. Jesus here laid aside symbols of prestige, position and status to serve. In the same way we ought to... Read more

At the beginning of a recent gospel sermon Tope Koleoso, the man I am so thankful to God is my pastor,  said the following: “The Bible is a profound book. Its author is God. Its message is about life, your life, about salvation–that is you being connected back to your maker.  Its doctrines are immutable. Its histories are true…You need to decide at some point how you take the Bible. Do you see its stories as true histories, things that happened., or... Read more

A book by my long since with Jesus mentor, Henry Tyler which he called “Jump for Joy” on page 33 says some devastating words. Devastating to spiritual complacency, I mean! As I enter  a very busy couple of weeks in which I will cross the Atlantic on business to Chicago, and preach three times back in London, I can think of nothing better to ask you to pray for me, and to urge you to pray for yourself than that... Read more

Today I discovered a tool that confirmed something I have long suspected. The virtual crowds of people who follow people on Twitter do not overlap as much as you might suspect. As a result one of the most helpful things you can do is help your followers find other people you enjoy reading. Don’t assume that even if you have far fewer followers than your personal favourites, everyone following you must “surely” have already heard of them and decided to... Read more

In the UK we have a peculiar form of hypocrisy about abortion.  When the law allowing abortion was passed (note to my American readers, this was passed by an act of parliament, not a ruling of unelected  judges)  it was argued that abortion was needed to save the lives of women.  Even the most traditional pro-life Christians would agree that if there is truly a risk to the life of a woman (eg a ruptured ectopic pregnancy) then abortion should... Read more

I don’t pay much attention to the sales figures for my book.  I do know two things about them though.  Firstly, the publisher told me they were happy with the sales, especially for a first time author without an “offline” platform.  Secondly, the total number of sales is much fewer than the number of readers of this blog.I am also aware that there are many new readers who might somehow have missed that I wrote a book that argues that... Read more

In the UK many public figures are understandably nervous about speaking about God. Blair was famously cut off by Alistair Campbell “we don’t do God.” It may not seem like much but when Lewis Hamilton said the following in an interview he was risking public mocking: “You have to remain hopeful, you have to believe there is a plan . . . I believe God has a plan for me. I don’t know what it is.” So, people of any... Read more

I have to say that the case of Arizona pastor Michael Salman who is currently in jail for running a Bible study in his home astonishes me. For all my life I have been involved with churches that also meet in homes for Bible Studies midweek.  It seems that according to the state of Arizona that should be illegal. I suppose it is possible that part of the situation here is to do with the size of this person’s Bible study.  Clearly... Read more
