Magick IRL: Now Get to Work, Witch!

Magick IRL: Now Get to Work, Witch! January 21, 2020

You Want a Hot Body?

I wake up every day at 3am. It sucks. I’m tired and it’s cold that early in the morning right now, even here in South Carolina. I drink a cup of coffee and give gratitude for all my things. The drafty camper I live in, the 2000 4Runner I drive and its 263,037 miles, the job I don’t really want to go into at 8am, and the one cup of coffee I drink before I head out the door. I’m thankful for all of that first. Then I pull my tarot for the day. I decipher their message as best I can and then read their meanings over at Biddy Tarot.

On a good day I’m out the door by 3:45am, assuming I haven’t turned around to go get my Apple watch I left at home, I’m at the gym by 4:30am. Normally I realize I’ve forgotten my watch so I get to the gym at 5am after my detour back home. On my drive I listen to a number of different podcasts. Modern Witch, The Witch Wave, and Basic Witches are my go-to selections. I have a lot of catching up to do with two of the three so I’m never short on content.

When I get to the gym, I run for thirty minutes. This is evolving. It used to be that I would do a couple intervals of a one-minute run and a one-minute walk. I’d take a two-minute break every three minutes. Now I don’t take breaks. It’s been about a month and I have a steady interval for all thirty minutes of this routine.

I follow the run with an hour of body weight exercises. This is where I use my own body for the work out so it’s all calisthenics. Very few weights are involved. I am showered and in my truck before 7am so I can pump out 1000 words before I ever start my actual work day. You’re probably wondering by now, “Why is this Witch talking about working out?” Hold tight, I’m coming to a point here.

I don’t do any of this because I absolutely want to. I mean, I do, obviously. Otherwise I wouldn’t do any of it. But I have bigger reasons for all of this. I wake up at 3am and break my body down first thing in the morning for a good reason. And I sit in my truck writing for a good reason, too. It is because I have goals.

Now Get to Work, Witch!

I am a writer. Even before anything else in my life I have always been a writer. I live in a crazy place in my head where I script out stories and worlds. I do this while existing in the real world. I don’t possess any publishing credits as of yet and still I am a writer. Truth be told I just turned in my first draft to Llewellyn Worldwide so that credit is on its way. But as of right this moment that credit doesn’t yet exist.

But I’m working on it. And that’s my point. I’m not special. I mean, yeah, I am in the way that we all are, but really, I’m no different from you. I had a dream and I went out and fought for it until I got it. I turned over every stone and followed every path I could find until I found a way to see that dream come to fruition.

That’s what you do isn’t it? You set your sights on your goal and you endeavor until it is actualized. This is manifesting in its most basic nature. Sure, I used magick. I made road opener spells, I created candles, and I petitioned Hekate Ekdotis, Rixipyle, and Einodia to help me make this happen. It was the magick, though not just the magick, that got me here. I worked hard. I woke up and started my day when people were still sound asleep. I drove down country roads in the middle of the night when there were no cars in sight. I finished my gym routine while everyone was just getting to the gym. And I watched everyone arrive to work as I wrote.

And yep, the magick helped. It helped a lot. It kept me sane, it helped me feel like I had an extra hand, and most of all it kept me on target. I’m not special. No more than you are. But I put in the work, and that work is paying off.

Don’t Stop Now, Just Be the Champion

I recognize that not everyone’s goals are the same as mine. I get it, that when we, as Witches, want something we are likely to perform magick. But the magick isn’t the most important part. It’s just a tool, a path that leads us closer to the harvest of our intentions.

So, what do you do when you are waiting for your magick to do its thing?

You find all the mundane things in the world that you can do to help that magick work. It takes a lot of energy for any one of us to cast a spell. What is important to remember is that after that energy is used, we aren’t done. We have lots of things that we can do while we wait. It just kind of depends on what your goal is. For me I submitted a proposal for a book deal. And then I waited, it felt like forever. I could have sat around and played thumb war with myself. I could have scrolled through Instagram and envied all the writers I’m following. I could have done a lot of things that would have done nothing but waste time and increase anxiety.

But I didn’t. I wrote the book. I worked on it as much as I could. I worked on it even though I was anxious that I might be turned down. I worked on it even though I could have been wasting my time. But really, I worked on it because I believe in myself and the magick that I possess.

Self-doubt is a real thing; we all experience it. From the biggest stars in the world to the little people like me and you. Self-doubt is alive and well in all of us. The issue isn’t whether or not we are doubting ourselves. The issue is if we are believing that doubt.

Our strength as Witches comes from the power we possess to believe in ourselves. Our faith in our own power is why we are strong. When we doubt that strength we are experiencing a human moment. How we work through that human moment is what sets us apart from so many others we share this planet with.

Watch Out Now, Cause Here It Comes

When we put in the work despite opposition and roadblocks, we tell the world that we are not having it. When we have those moments of self-doubt but continue to journey forward on our path, we are saying,” No, I don’t accept that”. This is the power we use to manifest our desires.

I believe that magick is a tool full of tools. We have candles and herbs, we have star charts and deities, and so much more. All those things are like cogs in the machine. When we are working with these tools we are accessing the energy of what I like to call The Source. That’s the big thing in the universe that no one is really sure about. It’s the vibration that holds our molecules together. I don’t know what The Source really is, but I think maybe it is the singular consciousness that we come from and go to between our moments of corporeal form.

Regardless, when we gain access to that energy we are given a gift. I believe we are all worthy of that gift. We don’t have to be Witches or whatever to tap in. But I think Witches understand tapping in a little better. The deal is though, that when we tap in we are bestowed with a responsibility, a responsibility to believe.

Look, you are never going to completely rid yourself of doubt. I know I can’t. And if you can that’s awesome but honestly, if you are living without doubt of any sort, I’m led to question just how full of yourself you really are. Either way, when you experience doubt let it in. Give it a moment, allow it, acknowledge it even, but only for a moment. Then let the doubt move on because when you do this you are being humble. You don’t have to accept the doubt, but it is a thing and ignoring it will not make it go away. When you acknowledge the doubt and move past it you are taking the power out of that doubt and giving it to yourself.

Spread the Word

Working on your endeavors despite your doubt and despite any complications is the action you take that speaks louder than your words. I know the saying is cliché but things often are because they work. When your actions line up with your intentions you communicate to The Source that this is the thing you want. When you work toward your goal regardless of the obstacles that stand in your way you tell The Source that you already see this thing as yours.

Using this mindset is the best way to manifest the intentions you put into your magick. So, if that means you wake up at 3am and get your butt in the gym before writing 1000 words for the day, great! If that means you make 50 candles a week and then sell them at the flea market on the weekend, awesome! At the end of the day you just have to keep working on what you want. Whether you are using magick or not isn’t a factor honestly. What matters most is that you have set an intention and you strive for it tirelessly until it manifests as yours.
