Simple Witchery: Let The Sun Shine In

Simple Witchery: Let The Sun Shine In June 19, 2020

Whether you call it Litha, Summer Solstice, or Midsummer, this is the time of strong summer sun in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s a perfect time to cast away shadows of oppression, ignorance, and deceit.

Summer is officially underway. Traditionally that means vacation, road trips, a week at the cabin, a day on the beach, biking, hiking, cookouts, picnics, and everything we can enjoy in the great outdoors.

But things feel a bit different this year. We’re worn out and weary from the challenges of a global pandemic—closings, unemployment, lockdown, working from home, home schooling, and social distancing.

As if adjusting to this new way of life (even if only temporarily) isn’t enough of a challenge, we’ve been plunged into a boiling cauldron of racial discord, BLM vs. militarized law and order.

If summer vacation is feeling like a big flop, try tapping into the Solstice sun energy to recharge your batteries, and to shed some light on the world and its woes with some simple witchery for enlightenment.

Light reveals what hides in shadows. Now, when the sun is at its zenith, call on the bright light to reveal that which has been denied for too long, and that which is deliberately obfuscated by the agenda of politics. Be it systemic racism built into the very foundations of our society, or the failure of those in power to uphold the Constitution and hold all people equal under the law, vanquish that stagnant energy with a boost of strong summer sun magic.

Call on the light to reveal and reclaim the better aspects of humanity, that have become overshadowed by the disappointment and rage of a battle that has been waged for too many generations.

There is plenty of righteous indignation to go around, but we also need grace, mercy and compassion, given in equal measure to that which we, any of us, hopes to receive. Only then will we break free of the shackles that bind us from true change for the betterment of all.

Washed In The Light Spell

Fill a clear glass jar or bottle with water (a quart size canning jar works)
Place clear quartz, rose quartz, and citrine crystal in the water (for amplification, love, and solar power)
If you have access to roses, add fresh petals (Goddess/feminine energy, acceptance, grace and mercy)
Place the water under the Solstice sun at dawn
Light a white candle (pure light)
Call the sun’s bright energy down into the water while stirring clockwise, saying:

Energy of strong summer sun
in this water infused
through love and acceptance
reveal the truth
wash away the shadows
of denial and deception
give strength, mercy,
grace and compassion
in the light of the sun
for one and all
so it is said, so it is done

Leave the water and burning candle until noon.

You can adjust the ingredients and spell as you wish, by adding layers of magick with additional herbs and flowers, dressing the candle with ritual oil, or inscribing it with intentions or a sigil. You can also place the jar on a mirror, silver platter, or even aluminum foil, to intensify the sunlight.

Strain the water, cover and keep it in a cool, dark place. If you added roses organic matter, add one or two tablespoons of alcohol (such as vodka) per quart, to help preserve the elixir.

To use your Solstice elixir, write down a situation you want to illuminate, pour a small amount of your solar water into a shallow dish, then douse the paper three times, repeating the spell. Bury (or flush) the paper and pour the water over it.

Try using your Solstice elixir to anoint your third eye and crown chakras for personal awareness and awakening—if you added alcohol, be careful not to get any in your eyes. You can also use the elixir in divination magick, to help shed light on the truth of the matter.

Add a splash or two of this strong sun-infused potion to a ritual bath when confusion has you going in circles and you seek clarity.

The Solstice is also a good time to work healing magic with the light of the strong sun. Create an altar devoted to healing. Use your Solstice water to help reveal the science that will lead to a safe vaccine for the Corona Virus, to boost immunity, and to energize medical staff and other essential workers.

Summer is also the time of growth and increase. Let your celebration and rituals throughout the season focus on harnessing the energy of expansion and putting it to use in your magical life year-round.

Gather and dry herbs and other ingredients for your magical pantry, from the wild, farmers markets, or the supermarket. Appreciate the abundance around you and let your energy be that of gratefulness—take only what you need and give daily thanks for all that is given.

During this time of abundance, consider gratitude offerings by donating to the work for social justice. Google search to find organizations currently accepting donations, as some have been so overwhelmed  they’ve paused fundraising efforts. The ACLU and NAACP are good starting places.

If you still send checks in the mail, draw a sigil on the back to spread social justice awareness with your dollars; use your solar water and a cotton swab—nobody will be the wiser.

If you donate electronically, raise your energy of expansion toward the desired purpose and then hit send. Visualize the energy expanding into the universe, being directed to positive, lasting change.

If you aren’t able to donate financially, consider volunteering to help at any social service agency, food banks, city and neighborhood task force committees, or non-profits that serve your community.

If you’re staying safer at home and practicing social distancing, you can make phone calls or stuff envelopes. You can call or write your city council members and mayor, local newspaper editor, and your state representatives in congress.

When you shop, remember to thank those essential workers who have been there to serve your needs. Send a little of the sun’s vitality their way.

No matter how you choose to be an agent of positive change this summer, let the light sun shine through your magick.
