10 Songs for 4 Gods

10 Songs for 4 Gods January 16, 2013

Ever since reading about the Antinoan Feast of the Senses I’ve been enamored with the idea of creating lists of songs, stories, food, smells, and places that remind me of my Gods. (I do, actually, have a playlist for Antinous as well!) These are not necessarily offerings in that I place food on an altar or burn sheets of lyrics to the gods – though I’m sure that would work excellently too – but rather items that remind me of my Gods and bring me closer to Them. I find setting out a plate of treats to slowly pick over while reading or listening to music or just contemplating to be very helpful in my practice, and that it relaxes me so thoroughly helps elsewhere in my life as well.

What follows bellow are ten songs that remind me of the Four Gods I worship. It was incredibly hard to not simply post an endless list of Florence + the Machine and Ellie Goulding, but hopefully this list is varied enough to appeal to various tastes. (Though, ultimately, it is the feelings they inspire in me and how my Gods feel about them that is a deciding factor.)

1o. I’m Not the One – 3Oh!3

9. In My City – Ellie Goulding

8. Running Up That Hill – Placebo

7. Die Young – Ke$ha

6. 24 – Jem

5.What the Water Gave Me – Florence + the Machine

4. Men of Snow – Ingrid Michaelson

3. Ophelia – Natalie Merchant

2. King and Lionheart – Of Monsters and Men

1. Blinding – Florence + the Machine
