For many, the new year is both a time of reflection as well as a time to ponder the future. Some make resolutions (yet fewer keep them), while others pass completely. I, on the other hand, would like to offer a prayer, one that I plan on reciting every morning in 2018. Feel free to make it your prayer as well.

In every moment of this year, may I be open to receiving your grace.

When I drift astray, may you shower me with mercy.

When I hold grudges against my brethren, may I repent of my wickedness.

When others hold them against me, may forgiveness flow from my lips.

⁕⁕⁕

In every moment of this year, may I be open to receiving your love.

When I fail to love, may you have compassion on me.

When I withhold love from myself and my brethren, may I open my heart and let love flow in.

When others withhold their love from me, may mercy flow from within.

⁕⁕⁕

In every moment of this year, may I be open to receiving your peace.

When I am at war inside, may your gentle Spirit comfort me.

When I am at war with others, may I have self-control and change my ways.

When others are at war with me, may grace pervade each and every space.

⁕⁕⁕

In every moment of this year, may I be open to your joy.

When I am angry, may you teach me to breathe.

When I am quarreling with others, may I be gentle and full of empathy.

When others quarrel with me, may shalom be my everything.

⁕⁕⁕

Oh God, hear my prayer. And may you have mercy on us all.

Amen.
