Those Who Inspire
In an evening event orchestrated by Issam Lagrichi of Helping Hand USA San Diego, I had the good fortune of headlining the occasion with one of the most amazing American Muslim activists on the scene. Sr. Yasmeen Mogahed and I carved out some personal time away from everyone else to trade notes on all things spiritual and operational. What we saw in common were that people are grateful for the visits and they appreciate being touched by words of inspiration, but very few are aware of the sacrifices that go along being able to deliver at this high level. Constant contact on social media, time away from family and children, seamless travel from airport to hotel to venue, sleep deprivation, maneuvering between time zones, the call to make yourself available for anybody/everybody 24/7 without cause or care for rest and personal space … Taking advantage of being in the presence of someone who is much senior to me in this space, I asked her: “What is the best formula to make it all happen?”
She replied: “Position yourself to maximize your barakah by minimal output!” Profound words of wisdom. I thought to myself SubhanAllah, Islam has made over a million ways to make this possible. She even signed a book for me!
