“To me, it shows what I’ve seen this entire election cycle: an intense focus on desired white supremacy over common sense or self-respect. Perhaps a lack of self-respect is too judgmental. I’ve seen a lot of, ‘It didn’t happen to me, hence it didn’t happen to anyone else,’ about Trump’s accusers, or a sense that since this person is so invested and feels their sense of consent in regards to Trump, anyone who challenges that sense of consent is merely complaining.

Layla Abdullah-Poulos is an adjunct professor at SUNY Empire State College. She has her master’s degree and advance certificate in Women and Gender Studies. Abdullah-Poulos is the founder and president of Minority Students in Action, a student group dedicated to fostering inclusion and multiculturalism in higher education.
