Don’t be so afraid to say the wrong thing that you say nothing at all:

While language is important, misusing a word or two is not going to completely derail what you’re trying to do. I say the wrong things all the time, whether it’s butchering the pronunciation of Arabic words or phrasing things incorrectly, but my Muslim friends and colleagues have yet to disown me or write me off as ignorant. In fact, most of the time no one seems to have the heart to correct me on these matters. I would say that it is important to keep an open mind about the use of language and welcome any feedback from those around you. Lastly, a simple principle that seems to be neglected: When you are unsure of the appropriate word to use, simply ask.
