I have gotten to know a dynamic bunch of awesome Muslims through social media. My little corner of suburbia is hardly the hub of Muslim society, so I have relied on things like Facebook and Twitter to create connections with Muslims across the country and even around the world.
Yeah, some of these connections are pretty crazy and scary, but the ones that aren’t can be profound, raise my awareness about issues about which I was previously clueless, and encourage me to be a better person all around. During Ramadan, those social media contacts tend to ratchet up on the sharing of uplifting posts that help keep me focused.
I also get to keep in touch with what is going on in their lives and see how great the month can be for Muslims from an array of backgrounds.
From the first set of “Ramadan Mubarak” posts to the “Eid Mubarak” greetings, social media can help Muslims, especially those in a majority non-Muslims society, stay in touch with the blessings of the month.
