#2 Inspiring Videos and Hashtags

Another cool thing about social media is the plethora of inspirational series by Muslims scholars and online media source as well as some very cool hashtags. Things become thematic and center of reflecting on ibadat [worship] and ways to get the most barakah [blessings] and self-improvement. There is also essential Quranic exposition that helps us consider making closer connections with the Book of Allah. A few of my favorite include:

Sapelo Square – Their Black Muslims Reflect on the Quran series provides some phenomenal socio-cultural context to the Quran. So often, Black Muslim experiences and perspectives are alienated from the Book of Allah. Reading these reflections affords people purposefully separated from the deen (faith) dialogues opportunities to reconnect.

Yaqeen Institute – The Faith Revival series with Sh. Omar Suleiman offers daily talks with the goal of developing spirituality and self-awareness.

#BlackMuslimRamadan – Donna Auston started this hashtag for a very simple reason. Black Muslims rarely see representations of themselves and their culture media about Muslims. Little has changed since the inception of the hashtag, but it is now a mainstay of the Black Muslim social media experience during the month, with fabulous pictures and posts about what it means to be Black and Muslim.
