Insulin resistance is a well-known problem that can lead to various health problems such as type 2 diabetes. It is often caused by obesity. Insulin sensitivity, however, is a good thing, and means your tissues are more sensitized to the good actions of insulin. Fasting promotes insulin sensitivity, resulting in better blood sugar and other positive effects such as weight loss.

A pilot study of a small number of patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes, published in the World Journal of Diabetes found that intermittent fasting improves key outcomes including body weight, fasting glucose and post meals variability of blood sugar. [2]
