The effects of 9/11 on the American Muslim community vary widely, from reports of Muslims changing their names (not that they didn’t do that before) to a cautious reassertion of Muslim identity. It’s painful, yet understandable, to see “Tariq” become “Terry”, to say nothing of the fear of being named Osama. Since 9/11, the Muslim response to terrorism has varied from muted apology to flag-waving denial, with reactions from other Americans mixed as well. How are you holding up six months later? Is the threat of terrorism growing or waning? Has understanding of Muslims increased? Do you feel more or less comfortable with your Muslim identity?
