5:30am

5:30am January 23, 2012

It’s really no secret. I am not a morning person.

It’s weird because I LOVE the mornings! It’s by far my favorite part of the day, but the sad part is, I’m rarely conscious during this part of the day.

I have no clue what it is about the mornings, maybe it’s how still it is, or maybe its that it represents a fresh start, or that I rarely see it so when I do I’m in awe of it…

Either way, this year things are going to change.

This year, I’m going to be conscious for the mornings. Now don’t get my wrong I usually wake up at about 8am (so it’s not that I’m sleeping to noon everyday). But with working two jobs, volunteering in a local youth ministry, applying to grad school, and attempting to maintain somewhat of a social life I really don’t have any other time to work towards my dream job.

I get home at 10:00pm half of the the time and by then I’m done for the day. Spent… got nothing left.

Which is where 5:30am comes into play.

This is the only real time I have to work towards my dream.

“If your dream isn’t worth getting up 30 minutes early to work on, it’s not really a dream.” – Jon Acuff

I was reading Jon Acuff’s blog and he challenged his readers to get up early to work on their dream… Take a picture of their clock and finish this sentence, “The early bird gets ______.”

For me, I’m taking this a step further. I’m not going to wake up at 5:30 just today. But I’m going to wake up at 5:30 every weekday to work on my dream. It might sound crazy, but at this point in my life, although this is just a season, this is just what needs to be done.

I’m not only doing this because this is a dream, passion, or love of mine. I’m doing this because i believe whole heartedly this is a calling.

“People say you have to have a lot passion for what you’re doing, and it’s totally true, and the reason is because it’s so hard, that if you don’t… any rational person would give up… So, if you don’t love it you’re going to give up. If you look at the ones who ended up being successful, the ones that are successful loved what they did so they could persevere when it got tough, the ones that didn’t love it quit, because their sane. if you don’t love it you’re gonna fail. You gotta love it and you gotta have a lot of passion.” – Steve Jobs

So for me, for this season, I’m going to be conscious, awake, and working at 5:30 in the morning, towards not only my dream, but my God given calling…

And with that…

The early bird gets to speak at camps.

The early bird gets to write books.

The early bird gets to blog

What about you? If you were to fill in the blank, what would yours say?

The early bird gets to _______.
