Are Transgender People Being Used as “Straw Men”?

Humor me here: But, the NY Times says “About 1.4 million adults in the United States identify as transgender, double a widely used previous estimate, according to an analysis based on new federal and state data.”

That’s just a mere .6% of our US population.

Before you judge, please read this to the end…

First, What is the Straw Man Argument?

Well, some refer to it as “logical fallacy” others refer to it as “disambiguation.”

In short, Wikipedia defines the Straw man argument as “a rhetorical technique (also classified as a logical fallacy) based on misrepresentation of an opponent’s position.”

  1. Person 1 asserts proposition X.
  2. Person 2 argues against a superficially similar proposition Y, falsely, as if an argument against Y were an argument against X.

It brings to light touchy and admittedly not so PC questions. Questions that, understandably, most of us won’t articulate outwardly; that being, mainly, what I’m asking here today: are we too busy tweeting online, becoming these social justice warriors, that we’ve lost sight of the hurting people directly in front of us?

I mean, if race doesn’t exist, truly, could race be anything else other than a straw man?

It’s a straw man inside of a straw man argument…
