iPhone a Ministry Tool. Really?

iPhone a Ministry Tool. Really? October 28, 2011

About a year and a half ago. I stood in line at the apple store with hundreds of others waiting to purchase an iPhone 4. I was extremely hesitant in buying it because of how much it cost up front and how much it would cost per month.

But, to still to this day, I stand by the fact that this iPhone was one of the best, if not the best purchase I’ve ever made. Here’s why:

1. 4 in 1 capabilities (GPS/HD Video/Phone/iPod): These four things alone pay for the phone in and of itself. and honestly I’ve probably saved a couple hundred bucks on gas (the price of the phone) because of this GPS. Not to mention, if I were to buy these things individually I would’ve spent hundreds more.

2. It’s a ministry tool: I didn’t buy into this when I first heard the iPhone had come out. I just brushed this off as a bad excuse to splurge on an unnecessarily overpriced phone. But it’s completely true. The iPhone is an AMAZING ministry tool. The ability to email, update blogs, mass text students, do video announcements, play music on those long van rides to camp or before and after youth group, use it as a remote to control your PowerPoint slides from the stage, and of course the many youth ministry apps provided as resources to us youth pastors can be easily accessed through the iPhone.

3. Siri: “It’s like having an assistant except virtual.” Driving and getting text messages/emails that require immediate response? No problem Siri will take care of that. It’s voice recognition is said to be the best of the best, whether you’re in a quiet environment or driving 60 mph on the freeway. Siri can check the weather, send a text message for you, find a good lunch meeting location, set events/meetings in your calendar, shoot it can even tell you the meaning of life (42), and this is all done through voice recognition.

There’s so much more I could say, but I think you get the point. The iPhone is awesome.

What’re your thoughts? Is the iPhone a good use of ones money? Or a complete waste? Comment here.
