Millennials and Religion: Will a Lost Generation Ever Be Found? 2018-02-09T17:04:37-05:00
  • The Technological Age of Information (i.e. the Internet) – Why attend your medium-sized church, when you can attend a mega-sized church online? We have access to the best most gifted and talented communicators in the world. If Church is only a service – then why leave home to attend it, especially when you’re not even waking up until noon on Sunday (let’s be honest, #CollegeLife). The evangelical voice is no longer the only voice out there. There was a time when Churches could control who was heard, now with the technological age of information, that time is over. Rachel Held Evans, Matthew Paul Turner, and platforms such as Patheos have been on the forefront of altering the voice of the Church. We don’t need a fancy degree; the backing of a publisher, employment by a Church, or to be invited to speak at a conference, Wi-Fi access and basic knowledge of a computer is enough to build a platform (not to say publishers, conferences, and degrees don’t help at all, they do – they are just not the end all say all anymore). It’s a lesser form of WikiLeaks, allowing Christian “whistleblowers” to be heard, by millions. Give a person a laptop; you’ve given that person an opportunity.
