Do you want to be right or, do you want to be in relationship?

If only life could truly be whittled down to and encapsulated with binaries only… then again, it’s the complexity of life and relationships that make them worth our time and effort. IMO, it’s our ability to waver in and out of these complexities and somehow still find the humility to apologize and muster up the strength to say “I’m sorry.” Because sometimes we are assholes, other times we’re dealing (or, living) with assholes, and a vast majority of the time neither of us are assholes we’re just misunderstanding each other’s perspectives.

Walter Sobchak:
Am I wrong?

The Dude:
No you’re not wrong.

Walter Sobchak:
Am I wrong?

The Dude:
You’re not wrong Walter. You’re just an asshole.

Walter Sobchak:
All right then.

(The Big Lebowski)

Personally, my m/o, when given a list of limited options (e.g. being either right or, in relationship, etc.) is to immediately think of what options they didn’t list and why the other options I’m thinking of aren’t also viable.

“Nobody talks about Jesus’ miracle of having twelve close friends in his thirties” (Facebook)

But, truly, what it comes down to is that I don’t want to solely operate within this framework of being right or wrong – like all of us, I’m simply wanting to be loved, regardless.

With all that Jesus had done for these men, why would they betray him without hesitation?
