I’ve noticed a weird tension over time within my faith. Its this paradoxicality (i made that word up) of being extremely troubled by secular thought, while attempting to find and embrace my own intellectual reasoning to prove truth to my faith. You see, as Christians, we can’t do this – we can’t find any single authority to guide us through these dilemmas brought to us through secular reasoning. For instance (more…) Read more

I don’t really go to church services often. When people ask why, I normally just say something like, “I dunno, I just haven’t found a good fit yet.” Which is true, but it’s the watered down sorta, “I’m not really trying to enter into a conversation about this right now” type answer. The real answer is I just can’t really stomach it anymore. It exhausts me. You know, that whole doing the same thing over, and over, and over again, when... Read more

I heard a quote the other day, it was from Viktor Frankl, he said: “I don’t think man exists to pursue pleasure, I think man exists to experience a deep experiential sense of meaning, and when man cannot find this, he then numbs himself out with pleasure.” I think this is what happened to the church. The Forgotten Minority: That Moment When You Realize You’re Not White When I was five I was put in a different school because there was an ESL (English as a Second Language) program there. You may be wondering, “What’s wrong with that?” Well, for starters, I was born in Ohio and English was my native tongue. I was reading novels by kindergarden and I prided myself on the fact that I had an extensive vocabulary for a toddler. I had been... Read more

I’m not so sure Christianity is dying; so much as only a certain kind of Christianity is dying. The kind of Christianity I’m referring to is the American kind of Christianity. Some might know it as Evangelicalism others might have seen it in their mainline denominations, either way, or either form of tradition, American Christianity is nearing its end, it’s quickly losing its power, it’s steam, and it’s appeal. This politically charged, fundamentalist, religious right is fading out. It’s no... Read more

In college I had a professor who wanted to prove how easily influenced people could be. He asked for a volunteer and so I raised my hand. My professor asked me to stand outside in the hall way. While I was outside, my professor placed two straws on the table in front of him. One straw was short, the other was long. The rest of the students were given the goal of convincing me both straws were the same length.... Read more

Every now and again I’ll just drive around in my car, open up Spotify, choose a playlist, and turn my stereo all the way up. I dunno, for me it’s therapeutic. Last night I was doing just that, aimlessly driving around Princeton, doing my thing, and I began to think about the injustice in our world, Like (more…) Read more

[Guest post by friend Laura Livingood] I am tired; tired of waiting for the right one to come along, tired of hearing how happy all of my friends are in their relationships, tired of becoming yet another boy’s best friend knowing full well that they will never fall in love with me. I am exhausted, and honestly, even if I gave up, I’m not sure it would ever end the cycle. This is a day in the life of me... Read more

I’ve written a lot of songs and most of them have never been heard by anyone other than myself. And the ones I’d like people to hear haven’t been heard by anyone either. So it can be difficult when you meet new people and they ask you, what do you do? I write songs. What kind of songs? And the inevitable pause, followed by my answer… (more…) Read more

To me it’s always been weird that as Christian’s we’ve taken a neutral stance on riches, as if Jesus never talks about the rich, and that when He does, we act as if He is also neutral on the topic. (more…) Read more
