Psalm 127

Psalm 127 October 13, 2011

This morning I was reading through Psalm and came across Psalm 127. In particularly, verse 2 jumped off the page. Which reads, “In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat- for he grants sleep to those he loves.”

Hustle has been such a theme for me in my life. I’ve come to the mindset of, “work as hard as you can and you’ll get to your goals and dreams” but this verse was a great reminder to stop and think through who am I living for, what am I working for, and mainly am I doing this with my own will power or through his? It reads on in verse 1, “Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain.

Simply put, don’t go/move without God. Can I be successful without him, maybe. But it’s done in vain. Meaningless, an empty pursuit.

1 Unless the LORD builds the house,
   the builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
   and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.

Questions to ask:

Is this a call from God?

Am I sure this is what he’s asking and wanting me to pursue?

I almost typed out, “How can I include God in this?” As if this was MY plan. So maybe the questions is, who’s plan is it? Is this really a plan God has laid on you? or is this a dream or pursuit derived and created by you?
