We are not in control…

We are not in control… January 16, 2012

We are not in control. But he is… So everything will be okay.

This truth is one of the hardest things for us as people to grasp, to understand, to trust is that…

God is in control.

When the apostles were in the midst of a storm, in the middle of a lake.

They panicked.

They ran over to Jesus and shook him, saying “LORD SAVE US! We’re going to drown!”

Although they said it in command form, it was actually a question.

A questioning of Christ.

Whether or not he was God.

Whether or not he was all powerful.

and most importantly

Whether or not he was caring.

Many of us are in similar situations, many of us will be in similar situations. Situations, where we are amidst a storm, overwhelmed with panic, paralyzed by fear, where things aren’t necessarily going our way, or the way we thought and we come to a realization…

…that we are not in control.

This year, we have no idea what’s going to happen, or take place, we can plan, but we can only plan so much, we can prepare, but one can only prepare so much for the unknown…

As we think back to 2011, many of the major occurences in our life were not by our choice… (go ahead take a minute and think through the surprises of 2011)

And the thing is, 2012 will have surprises also. Some of us are in for the most exciting adventurous year, others are in for the one of the worst years…

But the questions are, “How will we react to them? How will we grow from them? How will these strengthen us or break us”

The apostles ran over to Jesus shouting “Save us!” But what they were shouting with fear and question was:

DO YOU CARE FOR US?!

My prayer for us all, is that we will come to realize and acknowledge that in this new year though many changes will occur two things will stay consistent:

That God is still in control and that he cares for us more than we will ever be able to grasp.

Jesus replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him” – Matthew 8: 26-27
