What “Using the Lord’s Name in Vain” Actually Means…

God Wants Us to Swear By His Name…

Now fast forward a couple of years to the New Testament and we see Jesus, the life of, in the four canonical gospels saying in Luke 6:46,

“Why do you say Lord, Lord but, do nothing of what I say?”

That’s the whole point of following Jesus and incarnating his life… but, if you’re not going to incarnate His life then what you’re doing is vain, “vain conceit“.

Use His name for what’s true, honorable, and good.

We see political Christians today abusing the Lord’s name taking it vain by inciting war, deporting immigrants, separating children from their parents, winning elections by swearing by His name…
