If I’m being honest one of the most frustrating things for me in life, has been my attempt at hearing God’s voice, seeking his direction, or finding his “will” for me.
Should I take this job or that job? Should I move here or there?
So many decisions, so many choices, so many directions that one could go, how does one choose? And I’m not talking about small decisions as to where you should eat or which movie you should watch, I’m talking about life changing, life altering decisions, the type of decision that will effect at least the next decade of your life.
How do we navigate through these times? How can we possibly make the right choice?
Do we just “follow our heart”? Go by a gut feeling? Meditate? Fast? Light candles? Sit in a hot sauna and smoke pipes until we hallucinate and the spirit of something appears to us…?
I really have no idea (though you probably shouldn’t do the last suggestion).
I half wrote this post and put it in my draft section hoping that I could come back to it with “3 easy ways on finding God’s direction”. But I’m back a couple weeks later, and honestly, I got nothing. I do think prayer, seeking wise council, and making sure your life is aligning with God’s word (the bible) are key.
But as for definitively knowing, without a shadow of a doubt what God is saying, and where he’s directing you. I don’t know. I have asked God begged God to speak audibly, to send an angel, or to even blind me as he did Paul… but honestly if any of those things happened, I’d probably have to go through great amounts of therapy or check myself into a mental institute, chalking those occurrences up to me simply being crazy.
So the best I got for ya is pray, seek wise council, and read scripture making sure your life and the calling you “feel” God is laying on your heart is aligning with his words.
(and if I do see an angel or something, I’ll be sure to blog about it, maybe it’ll even make it into my next “day in 90 seconds” video, ha)
