2. Ask your spouse to attend Christian marriage counseling or a crisis marriage retreat with you.
Once we know the whole truth of why our spouse has become apathetic about the marriage, we must take action to get the help that we need. Christian counseling is a great place to start. A counselor can help both partners to talk through the issues and to figure out some practical ways to heal and strengthen the marriage. Even if your spouse is unwilling to go to counseling at first, I encourage you to see the counselor on your own. You can find a list of local Christian counselors HERE.
If ongoing counseling isn’t an option due to time or finances, a crisis marriage retreat is a great alternative. These retreats are different than other marriage retreats because they usually include intense one-on-one counseling, as well as marital counseling. It’s also a great way to get away from the everyday stresses of life to solely focus on healing your marriage. Crisis marriage retreats give couples a boost to get their marriage on the right track. One crisis marriage retreat that we highly recommend is Winshape Retreats. They even offer scholarships for those who can’t afford the retreat fees.
Whether you decide to attend counseling or a crisis marriage retreat–or both–be sure to take immediate action to get your marriage on the road to recovery. Don’t wait until things get worse.
