- Your marriage is more important than your money.
I have seen financial troubles AND financial windfalls nearly destroy marriages. This marital turmoil occurs because spouses become so consumed with money worries–how to spend, how to save it, how to generate it, how to invest it, etc.–that we fail to foster our relationship. We must remember that money is simply something that we manage. It comes and goes. Money matters, but our marriage is far more important. So, we must never let money take precedence over our spouse and marriage. This means we don’t lie about money, withhold money, hide money, or even argue about money with our spouse. When we do, our money controls when we should be the ones controlling our money.
