Update:  The heir is born!  4:24 pm GMT at the Full Moon!  Scorpio rising with an 8th house Sun of Power.  I will be writing more tomorrow morning so stay tuned. The world has been watching Prince William and Kate Middleton as they wait for the birth of their first child.  Kate went into labor this morning and it is likely that the new heir to the British throne will be born today, just after the Full Moon in Capricorn.... Read more

We are in the midst of a very active planetary environment right now.   Mercury has just turned direct after a retrograde period, and Uranus and Pluto are still creating tension that will require us to let go to the force of irrefutable change.  Mars aligns with Jupiter today, evoking a burst of energy and activity that will help us to break free of any delays imposed by Mercury’s retrograde passage.  The watery grand trine (see the sidebar for a... Read more

I do a fair amount of what I call “repair readings” – readings for people who have been told things by other astrologers that are upsetting and sometimes ridiculous.  Like the time a client was told that at a certain time she would meet someone and it would be the only opportunity she would ever have to find her soulmate. Or when an astrology told a client that her daughter would die on a certain date. In 2008 I wrote... Read more

Painting by Gay Nichols.  As one of the outer planets, what I like to call the “transformational” planets, Uranus turns retrograde for about half the year, every years.  This ebb and flow of planets moving forward and then retreating before moving on again is a natural part of life and if we are able to slow down the rush of our thoughts we can find ourselves rocking to the rhythm of this eternal planetary wisdom.  This is very much like... Read more

Photo from TMZ. Yesterday I posted about the entry of Mars into the summer’s planetary intensity.  It doesn’t take an astrologer to predict that the “not guilty” verdict in the trial for the murder of Trayvon Martin would erupt into street protests, and the entry of Mars into Cancer and the resulting flareup of angry (Mars) feelings (Cancer) is just a trigger for the tinderbox of tension that is part of the Uranus/Pluto square.  (See the sidebar section on this... Read more

Mars in Cancer, July 13 – August 27, 2013 Tomorrow I will post on the Zimmerman verdict and what it means in the current planetary climate, but on Sundays I try to keep an inspirational focus rather than delve into politics and ugliness. Mars entered Cancer July 13, 2013 and tempers are likely to flare over the next few weeks.  Mars is in Cancer every two years or s0, and because Mars is the planet of aggression and drive it... Read more

There have been some pretty spectacular examples of the kinds of snafus that Mercury retrograde periods cause in the news lately: Google was down for about an hour today, cutting off access to online searches and email for millions of people. More here. In Florida, a ban on internet cafes actually banned every computer in the state. More here. The comeback of Eliot Spitzer after his scandal appears to be taking off. More here. A “rogue flight plan” affected passengers flying... Read more

Recently there was a discussion on the professional astrologers’ Facebook group about the demise of astrology publishers and the need for a repository of the astrological classics.  It wasn’t until the early 1990s (under the conjunction of Uranus, astrology’s ruler, and Neptune) that a group of astrologers who formed Project Hindsight began translating the classics and bringing back some of the medieval and, later, classic Hellenistic techniques.  Much of that knowledge resides on the web, in blogs and website articles... Read more

A Grand Trine occurs when three (or more) planets form a triangle and is generally thought to be a harmonious alignment. Trines work well together – they support each other and create ease but can also inspire laziness and complacency.  For this reason Grand Trines work best when combined with the more stressful aspects (such as squares and oppositions).  People generally think of trines as “good” and the stressful aspects as “bad,” but it’s the challenging aspects that motivate and... Read more

Today’s Cancerian New Moon comes on the heels of the transit of the Moon through the Uranus/Pluto square  as it prepares to meet the Sun for the New Moon, so the theme of the emotionality of Cancer set against the backdrop of the larger force for change that is the challenging dance between Uranus and Pluto (see the comments in the sidebar if you are not familiar with this cycle). When the Moon is in Cancer we tend to be... Read more
