This Is Not A Wet T-Shirt Contest

This Is Not A Wet T-Shirt Contest August 23, 2014

Is what I thoughtlessly told Sienna yesterday  when her “clothes that can get wet” ended up being a white t-shirt and white pants. Lucky for me, she was so excited about the prospect of pouring ice water over our heads that she didn’t even ask what a wet t-shirt contest is, deo gratias.

Our good friends from California, the Healys, challenged our family to the ice bucket challenge. We accepted — with only a brief discussion* of the oxymoronic qualities of social media awareness — and our neighbor filmed it for us last night.

Tim Muldoon from Patheos also challenged me last week, but in lieu of doing it twice we’ll be making a small donation. I’ve seen first-hand how devastating a disease ALS is for everyone involved. While a cure is absolutely a noble goal, there are tens of thousands of people in America alone who need practical help and support right now, so we’ll be donating to Compassionate Care ALS. Rather than focusing on medical research to help future ALS patients, CCALS focuses on current ALS patients, providing individualized support for people living with ALS, as well as their families and caregivers.

Of course, as soon as Mary stopped filming, Charlotte dissolved into tears and wanted to “be in the game.” Her soft-hearted father did not say, “too bad” and call her a chicken like someone with pink hair. Instead, he did it again with just Charlotte.

In case you didn’t catch it, we challenged the Kane family, the Curtright family, and Tio Borja. Let the games begin!

*I bet you can guess who started that one (hint: it starts with “O” and ends with “grrrrrr”)
