Looking For Happiness?
Contrary to popular opinion, the things of the world will not make you happy. Sure, maybe an expensive meal or a new car will make you feel good for a while, but it won’t last. God is the only true, lasting source of happiness. Therefore, if you are looking for happiness, you better be seeking God. Unfortunately, you can’t chase after God and material things at the same time. Something has to give.
You Can’t Have It All
One of the biggest lies we buy into every day is the idea that we can “have it all”. This is especially true when it comes to seeking happiness. We do everything in our power to escape from our problems and find happiness, but we often end up shooting ourselves in the foot. Every minute spent seeking material pleasure is a minute not spent seeking God. You can’t have it all.
Get Rid Of Some Junk!
When we have too much junk in our lives, there is no room for God. For years, I surrounded myself with “toys” and indulged in all kinds of pleasure producing activities. I was too busy having fun to spend time with the Lord. Oddly enough, I was miserable. That’s because I was filling myself with “junk food” and left no room for the spiritual food I needed to be happy.
Leave Some Room For God!
You wouldn’t stop for fast food on the way to a five star restaurant, would you? If you want to seek lasting happiness in God, make sure you leave room in your life for him!
For he satisfies him who is thirsty, and the hungry he fills with good things. (Psalm 107:9)
