A Moment of Grace— Nine Months Out

A Moment of Grace— Nine Months Out September 25, 2012

Nine months after the funeral, things begin to settle down a bit. The memories of the crisis itself begin to fade. You begin to worry that your memories of your daughter will grow dim. But then God intervenes and does something about it.

My wife has been on a major house cleaning kick in preparation for household renovations. This included cleaning out Christy’s closet. The purple girl was, like her grandmother, a collector of ‘stuff’ all kinds of stuff. But what Ann found was something special. I realize that the Bible says that ‘there is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed’ but honestly, I had never applied that to our beloved Christy.

What Ann found was: 1) a couple of poems Christy had written (see below), and 2) a video of her giving three little lectures at Purdue. Ann had said recently, ‘we don’t have any recordings of her voice’. In the ‘ask and ye shall receive’ category, we now have a DVD of her lecturing about: 1) getting a black belt in Karate (which she did), 2) lecturing on the joys she had of studying at Oxford, and 3) a lecture on rats. Yes, I said rats… she worked for the Psych department at Purdue where they did experiments on lab rats for the sake of medical progress. She even says in the video– ‘more lives have been saved through the lab studies on rats than by calling 911’. Who knew. Here is the little poem that brought me so much comfort this week. A parent always worries about the spiritual well being of their child, and their final destiny as well…. but perhaps this little poem and it’s unveiling was meant by the Almighty to calm those worries with an ‘all is well, and all manner of things are well’.
RETURN AND RELEASE

The Lord God sent us here,
To become his people,
He just wanted to hold us near,
But we’ve abandoned his steeple…

For other ways
We believe are free,
But there will come a day
When the Lord makes us see

The chains we were wearing
That kept us from caring
Kept us from true peace,
But we’ll be released.

But God has promised
No matter where
We will always
Be in his care

So do not have fear
He’s always near.

Thanks honey. I needed to hear that today… so glad you’re near to Him just now.
