A Week in Paris–Part Twelve (Lunch and the Jewish Quarter)

A Week in Paris–Part Twelve (Lunch and the Jewish Quarter) August 22, 2024

Man cannot live by art alone, and so we did some window shopping, and stop at a very famous gelateria and general dessert shop called Berthillion which was across the bridge over the Seine from the cathedrals we were visiting.

The nearby coffee stand under the sycamore tree which also offered hot wine!! could not compete with the ice cream parlor…

In Paris you are allowed to eat your glace, before the main meal…

The gendarmes were watching… and probably drooling.

It’s a good thing the school kids didn’t see this place as they marched off to the park….

Did I mention there were also more macarons….

Afterwards, we waddled off to the Jewish Quarter, window shopping along the way…

What a pathetic mascot for the Olympics…

Notice the palm trees on the bridge as we crossed back towards the Jewish quarter.  Not to mention the wonderful smelling flowers, jasmine perhaps

Not surprisingly we ran into a famous Deli in the Jewish quarter, offering fallafel and reuben sandwiches…   and this deli had some stiff competition just down the street…

But we stuck with Marianne’s, not least because they were also offering strudel after one’s sandwich…

I ran into a beggar with two dogs on a cart, and I gave him some money so I could take these pictures…

There were bookshops and a Jewish library

And a sign in Hebrew….

And shops with all sorts of curios and quaint things for sale…

There was a festive atmosphere…with garlands above the street…

And a drinking fountain for those dogs, presumably.
