45 Years and Counting

45 Years and Counting

Today is Ann’s and my 45th wedding anniversary—- and we are at the pyramids!!   How cool is that.   Here’s a shot from our 2004 trip. Notice that my group is sitting on the very bottom step of the Cheops pyramid. Notice how huge the stones actually are.

Sometimes 45 years of marriage seems to be an impossible hill to climb… like this pyramid.  But by the grace of God, and a lot of understanding and forgiveness of each other’s shortcomings, we have gotten there and are still enjoying life together.   Here’s a shot of us from last Christmas….

If we are honest, marriage is a very humbling thing, as it presents you again and again with your shortcomings, your insufficiencies, your weaknesses, your flaws, as well as all the good stuff.  It is a refiners fire, a sanctifying process if done right, if you let the love burn away the dross.  Thanks to my wife, I’m a better person than I would have ever been on my own.   And there is no way I could ever equal all the sacrifices she has made to help our marriage go and grow and work, even after the children have long since gotten out of the nest.  As a wise man once said, if you can’t truly love your nearest neighbor, your spouse, what chance do you have of loving other less present neighbors.  But it requires God’s grace and love to do this.
