The Gulet Boat Adventures and More: Part Five

While Rhodes is a Greek island, it is really much more cosmopolitan than many of the quaint little Greek islands. Today, only a minority of the citizens are Rhodians by descent or even more broadly Greek. All kinds of people live here and move here even to retire. So take post cards like this one with a grain a salt….

Much of the architecture and design looks non-Greek. It looks either Italian….

Or medieval as we saw in the last post. You can go and see the remains of the temple of Aphrodite near one of the gates..

But in the hot sun, its more fun to hang out in the cafes, or go get ice cream or check out the shops or, watch the local artists, or enjoy the floral beauty of the island.

And after coffee, how about some home made ice cream, if you don’t mind eating their art work???

Me personally, I’m addicted to the fistik ice cream (i.e. pistachio). While eating one’s ice cream one runs into a performance artist/mime, and since a mime is a terrible thing to waste, we stopped and watched her (and I gave her some coins).

Here are other kinds of artists and other kinds of art…

If you are interesting in interesting doors and stairs, Rhodes has them…

Need any sponges, bookmarks, decorative sea shells, healing hankies, or faux musical instruments?

(She sells sea shells, by the sea shore…).

It may be true that all roads lead to Rome, but all of Rhodes roads lead to shopping!
