In Conversation with Schmemann: Reviewing “We Give Our Thanks Unto Thee”

In Conversation with Schmemann: Reviewing “We Give Our Thanks Unto Thee” May 20, 2019

There are few voices that have captivated my theological imagination like that of Alexander Schmemann. It was discovering his work in my years in seminary that helped me create a context through which I began to put words into what made the liturgy and sacraments such an essential part of my spirituality and certainly played a role in my personal journey to the Catholic Church. His wisdom is the bedrock upon which many of the most influential theologians on my own life have made their contributions in the past few decades and I have voracious read everything by him I can get my hands on.

This is why I was so excited when I learned that Porter C.  Taylor was editing a volume with many of the most important voices engaging in Schmemann related scholarship. The book is entitled We Give Our Thanks Unto Thee. I am inviting you all to join me this month in reading through the volume.

I will be posting an article reviewing each of the contributions to the book creating a close to a “live” review as I can over the next few weeks. Stay tuned here! If you’d like to follow along and contribute your own thoughts be sure to pick up for own copy

You can get it at Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Give-Our-Thanks-Unto-Thee/dp/1532632703

I look forward to digging into this book and hearing thoughts as we go along.
