Making an Appointment with God

Making an Appointment with God  March 12, 2020

I have to make a confession: I’m terrible at remembering to pray. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve resolved to pray more often, only to completely forget. Prayer can so easily get lost and forgotten in the busyness of life.

This is one of the reasons I love Lent. The season of Lent reminds me to take seriously the task of prayer. It challenges me to move beyond my intentions to pray and actually make a plan.

This week we’re focused on making space for God in our lives. One of the best ways to do that is by actually block out some time for God in your schedule. Unfortunately, in my own life I often don’t take time with God as seriously as I take making time with others. When I want to meet with someone, I reach out to them, I make an appointment to see them, I add that time to my calendar and I make sure that I keep that space reserved.

I should be able to do the same thing with God.

God actually makes it really easy for us. God’s schedule is always wide open. God never has to reschedule. God never arrives late. All we have to do is put prayer on our calendar and make sure we show up.

Questions for Today

  • Does time with God have a place on your calendar?
  • How might you carve out some extra space for God in your life this Lent?
