Setting the right course this Lent

Setting the right course this Lent

I love the book Alice in Wonderland and find myself returning to this classic again and again. One of the things I most enjoy about this book is the absurdity, as it helps me to see how my own life can sometimes be absurd. One of my favorite exchanges in the book is between Alice and the Cheshire Cat:

Cat: Where are you going?

Alice: Which way should I go?

Cat: That depends on where you are going.

Alice: I don’t know.

Cat: Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.

We began our Lenten journey by reviewing some of the pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting, and generosity. We focused on these because it is important to decide how you want to travel down the Lenten road this year, but we also need to remember where are headed. Lent has a destination, and at the end of the forty days, we arrive at Easter.

I sometimes feel like Alice, ready to move without a clear view of my destination, and I risk losing my way. This week we are going to explore what it means to be on the road to Easter. Lent is a time to reset our spiritual GPS on a resurrection destination, intentionally removing distractions and reorienting ourselves towards God.

Let us continue this journey together!

In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. (Proverbs 16:9)

Questions for Today

  • How do you feel you’ve been distracted lately from having your spiritual GPS set on God?
  • What would you like God to help you with this week, in order to move your life and heart closer to God’s life and heart?
