There’s a reason why we call old wisdom ‘old.’ Because it’s been around. Because it has a way of surfacing, if buried, or circulating widely, if restrained.
‘If you’re tired, rest,’ old wisdom has it, stating the obvious, as all old wisdom does. If you’re tired, rest. Don’t quit. Just rest.
If you’re tired of worrying about the virus, and how it may affect your health and your work, take a rest from worrying.
If you’re tired of the world situation, however exciting, take a rest from concepts, especially the concepts related to race, status, age, and gender. For example:
If you’re tired of race, take a rest from hierarchy and power games and power claims: whiteness vs. blackness; blackness vs whiteness.
If you’re tired of status, take a rest from expectations: privilege vs poverty/poverty vs stigma.
If you’re tired of age, take a rest from embodiment: vitality vs disability/disability vs the arrogance of youth.
If you’re tired of gender, take a rest from identity: self-empowerment vs victimization; women vs the patriarchy; heterosexuals vs homosexuals vs; trans people vs terfs.
If you’re tired of action, take a rest from guilt: doing nothing vs. mobility, politics and activism.
Just take a rest. Abide in the only one truth there is. It’s called impermanence. Whatever you do, however restless you are, physically, metaphysically or metaphorically, you’re still going to die. Whatever legacy you may or may not leave behind you is not for you to judge. Take a rest from all the bonds you lay on yourself or you tie yourself with.
If you still don’t know how to do it, ask your cards about it:
How can I rest?
They may say something like this:
The Magician, The Sun, The Charioteer

You can rest in your mental agility that can distinguish between illusion and disillusion. ‘Now it’s here, now it’s not’ applies to everything you experience, from pain to pleasure, from love to hate, from time to eternity. In other words, rest in seeing what is the case, rather than fret about what you think is the case.
You can rest assured that there are others like you, like-minded under the brilliant sun, who run their run as you do and as everyone else does, the limits of their existence being as clear to them as they are to you.
You can rest from the notion that many having an opinion about how you do your trick at surviving has any significance. It’s enough if only one other recognizes what you do. And even then, you’re still on your own. You don’t need endorsements. Ride with that. Mount the horse and go places. There’s an intimate world of magic, here, now, waiting to be discovered. Discover life such as it is, while at rest.
